Every now and then, a book comes along that can help you redefine an important personal or spiritual aspect of yourself. Inspirational Home: Simple Ideas for Uplifting Decor and Craft, an uplifting home decorating book does more than that. It helps you redefine your most personal space -- your home -- into a serene, loving space for God and Christ. It gives you creative, beautiful ways to let the light in your heart shine into your home as well.

Many of the ideas in this book are ingenious. Using simple craft tools (glue, scissors, stencils) and rich colors in paint and other media such as paper and cloth, the author has created a treasure trove of ideas for transforming your home. From bread baskets to napkin holders, the author shows how adding a simple line or two from Scripture can transform the most ordinary object into something that brings the serenity of the Lord into the rooms in your space.

There are ideas for everywhere from the baby's room to the bathroom. Wall stencils, word pillows, and breadbaskets that reference the Lord's Prayer are all shown in vivid photographs, each with step-by-step instructions. There is a lampshade for a little girl's room that says, "Sweet little girls are heaven sent." There are two picture frames that together proclaim, "God hears" and another with a beautiful leaf that says, "For I know the plans I have for you. Jeremiah 29:11."

You can use the author's scriptural suggestions or create her projects using your own favorite verses. The author's choice for a decorated kitchen stool is perfect! She chose, "Lord, grant me rest." The words, "faith, hope, love," adorn a dining room wall soffit in muted colors that almost blend with the room. A tea cozy adds a humorous touch, announcing, "My heart is glad and my tongue rejoices."

In the introduction, the author asks, "Is there anything more inspiring than God's floral creations?" One whole section of this book is devoted to bringing the fresh beauty of flowers inside in ways that bring the mind to rest on God's wondrous creation. Cheerful, bold colors combines with simple vases and brief quotes from Scripture make sure you always have life-sustaining things around you.

Each project includes a project list and very easy-to-follow instructions. There is nothing complicated about any of these projects, nor are any specialized tools needed. For me, this adds to their charm and appeal. Except the time needed for paint and glue to dry, most of these projects can be accomplished in an hour or two. Children will enjoy participating in the craft making and including them will give you an opportunity to share your faith with them while you bring it into your home.
